Introduction of team's institution

Zhejiang University School of Medicine is in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, a city with a long history and rich and inclusive culture. Its predecessor is Zhejiang Medical College, which was established in 1912 by the merger of Zhejiang Medical College (the earliest Western-style medical school run by China) and Zhejiang National University School of Medicine and was upgraded to Zhejiang Medical University in 1960.

In 1999, in the year following the merger of Zhejiang University, Zhejiang University School of Medicine was reorganized and established. Adhering to the motto of “benevolent heart and art and seeking for truth and innovation” and the core values of “benevolence, truth-seeking, innovation and excellence”, the College has written a magnificent saga of nurturing people in the century-long years and nurtured many excellent medical talents in society and has developed into a first-class medical school with distinctive advantages, strong faculty and outstanding academic achievements.

The College has been recruiting excellent teachers and gathering scientific talents. The college has strengthened the construction of high-level talents, with 715 doctoral supervisors, 994 master’s supervisors, 32 top talents, 57 national leading talents, and 102 national young talents. Several role models have emerged, such as “National Advanced Worker”, “National Pioneer of Medical Ethics” and “National Most Beautiful Doctor”.

Xiaolin Xu

Dr. Xiaolin Xu is a research professor of epidemiology at the School of Public Health and the Second Affiliated Hospital School of Medicine (joint appointment), Zhejiang University. He is also an adjunct research fellow at the School of Public Health, The University of Queensland (Australia).

His research interests include the epidemiology and prevention of multiple risk factors and chronic conditions (multimorbidity) using life-course approaches, promotion of women’s health, and implications of big data in clinical and public health practice. He has published over 60 scientific papers, book chapters, and technical and policy reports in journals including The Lancet Public Health and PLoS Medicine. He has received funding from national and international agencies including China Medical Board and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support his research.
