On June 20, “the Global Alliance for Vaccine Immunization (Gavi) “co-hosted the Global Forum for Vaccine Sovereignty and Innovation with the African Union and the French Republic.” At this event, Gavi unveiled its strategic roadmap for the next five years, emphasizing the critical importance of safeguarding a larger number of children against a wider range of diseases “faster than ever before.”
The strategic framework sets forth key objectives: equity, healthy markets, sustainability, and expanded vaccine coverage. Gavi aims to bolster its impact on global immunization efforts and strengthen healthcare systems worldwide by articulating these goals.
The Global Forum’s presentation of the 2026–2030 Investment Opportunity stands as a pivotal initiative, supported by partnerships with WHO, UNICEF, the Global Fund, Unitaid, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the ELMA Vaccines & Immunization Foundation, Power of Nutrition, the Aga Khan Foundation, the UPS Foundation, civil society, development banks, and the private sector. These partnerships underscore a shared dedication to advancing immunization equity and accessibility, with plans to “protect 500 million children” and save “over 8 million lives” by 2030.
Gavi’s commitment to ensuring sustainable immunization practices manifested through engagements with numerous countries and was notable through the “launch of the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA).” The Alliance’s strategy is designed to “boost regional vaccine production capabilities in Africa” and thus “improve the continent’s resilience in the face of pandemics and other health emergencies.”
