Shu (Melinda) Chen's main research areas are health policies and systems, long-term care systems, infectious disease control, and healthy aging. She has published over twenty papers as first author and co-author in high-quality international journals (e.g. The Lancet Public Health, PLOS Medicine, BMJ Global Health). Melinda was the Associate Director of Research at Family Health International (FHI 360) Beijing Office, where she led the NIH-funded TB clinical trial research and capacity-building project. Prior to joining FHI 360, she was a Research Analyst and Coordinator of the Center for Global Health Research at Duke University in Kunshan, where she worked on health policy and systems research in the areas of major infectious diseases (e.g., tuberculosis and hepatitis) and chronic diseases (e.g., stroke and coronary heart disease). Melinda also has rich experience in working with international global health funders and partners, such as the Gates Foundation, World Bank, and NIH. She received her undergraduate degree from Peking University Health Science Center, and her master's degree from Duke University, US, and is expected to obtain her Ph.D. degree from the University of New South Wales, Australia in 2023.
