The EPI programme showed sustained coverage of Gavi-funded vaccines post-transition and the funding gap was bridged by mobilizing domestic financing facilitated by the Gavi co-financing mechanism, full integration within existing service delivery structures, well-established and favourable pharmaceutical procurement processes for the public sector and stewardship and financial advocacy by technically competent managers.

https://doi.org/10.1093/heapol/czad099

02

Effectiveness of a School- and Primary Care–Based HPV Vaccination Intervention-The PrevHPV Cluster Randomized Trial

This cluster randomized trial carried out in 91 municipalities found that free HPV vaccination on school premises was the only component that consistently and significantly increased vaccination coverage by 5.50% 2 months after the end of the intervention. Based on modelling, the 2021/2022 VCR prevented an estimated 1.9 million influenza cases, avoiding 375,200 GP visits, 73,200 hospitalisations and 38,400 deaths. To achieve the WHO 75% VCR target, an additional 24 million at-risk individuals would need to be vaccinated, most of which being older adults and patients with chronic conditions.

https://doi.org/10.1186/s12889-024-18694-5

Content Editor: Tianyi Deng

Page Editor: Ziqi Liu

Journal Content Recommendation 01 Factors impacting sustained coverage in the context of donor transitions: experience from Sri Lanka The study evaluated transition experiences from Sri Lanka of the expanded programme on immunization (EPI) that received Gavi funding.
