As the landscape of vaccine-preventable diseases evolves, vaccination needs among school-aged children and adolescents, including vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) and influenza, are receiving increasing attention. Improving vaccination coverage in this population has become an important priority for immunization programs worldwide. With their broad reach, organizational capacity, and accessibility, schools are increasingly serving as an important public health platform for promoting vaccination among children and adolescents. International experience suggests that school-based delivery of HPV vaccination can be an effective strategy for increasing coverage and promoting health equity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some regions in China have explored different approaches, including temporary vaccination sites on school premises and school-organized vaccination at clinics. However, establishing routine school-based vaccination mechanisms continues to face practical challenges, including insufficient coordination between the health and education sectors, low vaccination acceptance among parents and students, complexities arising from vaccine choice and preferences for different HPV vaccine valencies, heightened risk-management requirements for mass vaccination, and inadequate staffing and financial resources at the primary-care level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Drawing on international experience and local CDC practices, this policy brief recommends further clarifying the role of schools in vaccination programs and mechanisms for permitting vaccination activities on school premises; establishing routine coordination between the health and education sectors; adopting context-specific service models, including on-site school vaccination, dedicated vaccination sessions for students, and routine clinic-based vaccination; strengthening informed consent, risk management, and resource support mechanisms tailored to adolescents; and using pilot programs and implementation evaluation to develop school-based vaccination models suited to different contexts in China.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
